AND SO IT BEGINS …

Do you have a favorite event? It’s a question I get asked regularly enough, and a fair one too. We all have our favorites – cars, food, songs, movies, books etc. but rarely enough do these favorites spring to mind with no opposition. We need to think about them, as declaring something as our absolute favorite is almost a character defining declaration. If you were to ask me my favorite car, depending on the day and my humor at the particular time, you could get one of several answers. Ask me my favorite event regardless of the situation? There is only one answer – The Nürburgring 24 Hours.

BERGRENNEN BRILLIANCE ON YOUR DESKTOP

To finally wrap up our Berg Cup Eschdorf coverage, I’ve put together a variety of desktops for you. I’m actually sort of sad writing this as it means I now have to move on to the next event. Fair enough, the next event is the Nürburging 24HR so it’s not exactly a bad thing (Speedhunter problems) but I’ve got to say I really enjoyed shooting and talking to you about the Eschdorf event. We will be covering more of these events throughout the course of the year including Wolsfeld later this month and Oberhallau in August. It won’t come around soon enough …

TOYOTAFEST 2012 COMES TO YOUR DESKTOP

It’s the weekend and that of course means it’s time for a drop of desktops – in my case a selection of images from Toyotafest in Long Beach. I’ve uploaded images of this gangster looking Lexus GS… …a view of gorgeous Celica LB. How about a high res tribute to the most VIP car of [...]

THE CRAZIEST TALBOT SUNBEAM YOU’LL SEE TODAY

Okay, I’ll admit that this may not be the cleanest car we’ve ever spotlighted, but it certainly has its charm. For those of you unfamiliar with the Talbot Sunbeam, it’s a small three door hatch which briefly lived in Europe during the late seventies and early eighties. The Sunbeam Lotus edition, which is what this car was originally, was the hot hatch version and featured a 2.2 Lotus 16valve slant 4 engine in the standard production car.

BERG CUP ESCHDORF>> TALK OF THE TOWN

I can’t imagine too many places in the world where an entire town (and most of its surrounding areas) could be entirely taken over for a weekend of high octane mayhem. When I arrived on the Friday morning, Eschdorf was practically a ghost town. As the hours rolled on, it slowly came to life and by Saturday morning, the place was in full swing.

TOYOTAFEST 2012>>THE TEACHINGS OF MASTER YOTA

I’m glad that you guys have been enjoying the action from Toyotafest 2012 in beautiful Long Beach, California. Before I move onto the car spotlights and of course the desktops, I want to wrap things up with one final selection of images and observations from this year’s event. Here’s a side view of the MX73 [...]

BERG CUP ESCHDORF>> RACE TO THE TOP

One thousand, eight hundred and fifty meters in length. One hundred and seven meters increase in elevation. Seven percent maximum gradient.

When you look at just the numbers, you’re not getting the full picture of the Eschdorf hill climb. Nothing in these numbers tells you that there are wet leaves on the course, that there are concrete drains running downhill at the side which can suck you into the scenery, if you carry too much speed and miss the apex at turn five you’re going into the armco and if you run wide on the last corner there’s chance you’ll end up looking a full in front of the assembled spectators.

BHP SHOW LYDDEN HILL 2012>> THE TRACK

One of the things that makes the BHP Show unique is the live action. The chances are that the cars you will have been looking at on display will at some point be out giving it death on track. The recipe is simple. Whatever you drive you’re welcome to take out on track, either in [...]

MOJAVE MILE 2012>> BATTLE AT 200MPH

Ever since I started driving I’ve wondered what it would be like to go flat-out on an airport runway. No traffic to concern you, no authorities to worry about… The Mojave Mile event gives speed-freaks on the West Coast a taste of ultimate speed nirvana. Sean Klingelhoefer and I headed out to the Mojave desert this past [...]

BERG CUP ESCHDORF>> PREPARATION & ANTICIPATION

You never forget your first time. Whether it be your first drive, first kiss, first drift, whatever. It’s likely an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. When I stepped off the plane in Luxembourg Airport last Thursday, I knew I was about to experience something special.
