Tag Heuer Creates Special Edition Watch For Porsche’s 55th Anniversary
High end watches don’t keep better time than a $75 Timex, but they look much better doing it! If a man makes the decision to wear a watch in this day and age it says a lot about him. In the age where everyone uses their cell phone for a time keeping piece, watches are jewelry, from the look how, ahemm, “frugal†I am $30 plastic banded no name, to the look I’m an NBA/NFL athlete with more carats than Bugs Bunny.
Somewhere in the middle there is a slot for fancy but classy. The Tag Heuer Monaco line slots nicely into that spot. Made famous in the Steve McQueen movie Le Mans, the Monaco line has been adapted for many special/limited editions. Here, the Porsche Club of America commissioned Tag Heuer to produce the watch you see above, and only 55 numbered editions will be sold.
While understated it is easy to see that this is real craftsmanship, not some junk copy from China sure to stop working thirty minutes after to strap it on. You do have to pay for that craftsmanship and exclusivity though, the special edition watch will set you back $5500.
