Supercharger Overkill ?!?
Mike Christensen and his dad used to be just a couple of regular car guys. They went to the junkyard to pull parts, and on the weekends they took their big-block first-gen Camaro down to the local drag strip. Definitely awesome, but not really unusual. Then, one day, Mike’s dad returned from the junkyard with something special. Really special. Unbelievably special. In the back of his truck sat a supercharger. This, however, was no ordinary supercharger. It was a supercharger the size of most regular engines. Mike and his father didn’t know where it came from (they guessed a train), but they knew exactly where it was going.
Out came the Camaro, off came the intake and Mike and his pop went to work. They toiled for weeks, special ordering a supercharger belt to fit the beast, and custom-machining their own intake manifold to strap their new toy to its rightful perch, atop the Camaro’s big block. Then came the big day when Mike got to fire the force fed behemoth. Like clockwork, the big Bowtie sat and idled just like any other supercharged big block. Then, Mike goosed the throttle. Immediately, both head gaskets were ripped apart by the force of almost an entire engine’s worth of cubic inches of compressed air. Despite the setback, Mike and his dad were pleased, for they had seen the promised land.
